Enelco’s projects
Working to secure energy supply
Enelco S.A. will be active mainly in the operation
of combined-cycle power plants, a technology
which champions high efficiency, while remaning
environmentally-friendly.
Thanks to Enel’s experience with its several combined-cycle gas turbine plants (CCGT) in Italy, Spain and Russia, and easy access to natural gas resources through Prometheus Gas, Enelco is well equipped to play an important role in the electricity market in Greece and in Southeastern Europe.

Enelco currently owns two generation licences for
natural gas combined-cycle gas turbine power plants, with a total capacity of 900 MW, and is currently
participating in the first tender launched by the Hellenic Transmission System Operator (DESMIE) for new
generating capacity with its Levadia licence.
The two
power generation projects are:
A 450 MW combined-cycle gas turbine plant (CCGT) located at Livadia,
100 km north of Athens, requiring an investment of about 250 million euros, and expected to be up
and running by 2010.
The plant will help alleviate
System Transmission constraints,
given that demand for electricity in Greece comes mainly from Athens, whereas current generation capacity lies predominantly in Northern Greece.
A combined-cycle gas turbine plant near Alexandroupolis in Northern Greece, near the Turkish border, which will sell electricity in Greece as well as export to Turkey.
